Alexa Beat Cortana … or is about to.
If you haven’t heard, Microsoft is stopping development, support, and roll out of Cortana in several regional markets around the world.
Great Britain, Australia, Germany, Mexico, China, Spain, Canada, and India.
She is still alive and barely kicking in the US but I would imagine that this is just short term and eventually she will join Clippy the PaperClip and Microsoft Bob and disappear into the great recycle bin in the sky.
I read about this on Gizmodo the other day and really wasn’t too surprised. With Echo devices all over my house and the world, I never really had a use for Cortana. She was kind of just an intermediate to Alexa on my Windows 10 machine. She was fourth on my list of Voice Assistants. Fourth is not a good place for technology. Who is your fourth place search engine for instance?
The Gizmodo article stated “CEO Satya Nadella flat out said the company no longer considers Cortana a competitor to the likes of Amazon’s Alexa or Google Assistant despite a massive attempt to rebrand the voice assistant in 2018.”.
I would agree with that and also would have added in Siri as another competitor standing on the podium.
Voice development and AI productivity will still exist in Microsoft products but it won’t be long before Cortana is a thing of the past. I definitely attribute that to Amazon.
Follow me on Twitter and let me know who your 4th place search engine is. 🙂
